Alvord didn’t get the help it needed to squeeze into the football playoffs Friday. But the Bulldogs did finish on a winning note and take a well-earned win over county rival Paradise, 34-0.

About Vernon: After beating Hirschi to start District 5-3A play, the Lions were drilled last week in a 48-14 loss to Burkburnett. Vernon gave up 487 yards in the loss.

About Decatur: The Eagles picked up its first win last week over Hirschi 17-6. Decatur rolled up 325 yards in the win. The defense held Hirschi scoreless in the second half.

About Fossil Ridge: Like the Texans, the Panthers are looking for their first win. Fossil Ridge fell to Grapevine 38-33 last week. The Panthers’ last two losses have been by a combined eight points.

BEAR HUG - A Millsap player tries to wrap up Alvord's Luis Maldonado. AHS won its first district game 20-12.

In the opening game of District 9-2A play, the Bulldogs of Alvord had a bigger bite than their undefeated counterparts from Millsap as they slipped and slid to a 20-12 victory on a soggy Alvord field.
