| It's been a rough year so far for Boyd and Chico with only one win between the two of them. With the start of district 9-2A on Friday, it appeared one team might be ready to turn its season around while the going will remain tough for the other. |
| Boyd dominated at home against the Dragons, winning 58-0. The game was never in doubt as Boyd scored 27 in the first quarter and 17 in the second to take a 44-0 halftime lead. Colton Lyon got the 'Jackets on the board with 9:25 left in the first quarter on a 64-yard run. On the ensuing possession, Chico's punt was fumbled out of the end zone for a safety to give Boyd an 8-0 lead. With 5:10 remaining in the quarter, Boyd's Tim Fleming connected with Kyle Stearns on a 34-yard scoring pass. Fleming added another TD pass with 2:20 remaining in the quarter, this time a 25-yard strike to Lyon. Edgar Lugo's kick was good on both scores. Chico fumbled on the ensuing kickoff and after Boyd recovered, Fleming scored on the first play - a 17-yard run. Lugo's kick made it 27-0. In the second, Fleming and Lyon connected for another touchdown - this one for 10 yards, Lugo was good on a 35-yard field goal and Tim Warner found the end zone on a 9-yard run to give Boyd its 44-0 half-time lead. Both teams kept the clock running in the second half. The 'Jackets' Tim Warner recovered a Chico fumble and returned it 15 yards for a score with 9:31 left in the third, and Boyd's Ricky Ricketts scored on a 12-yard run with 10:52 left in the game to provide the final score of 58-0. Boyd rolled up 359 total yards of offense, with 201 yards on the ground. Fleming was 5-5 passing for 158 yards. Lyon caught two passes, both for touchdowns, for 35 yards. Chico managed only 12 yards of offense with no first downs. Next Friday, Boyd will entertain Alvord who also won their first district game Friday. Chico will host Paradise.
