"We struggled with assignments in the first half and turned the ball over too many times," said Boyd Coach J. G. Cartwright. "Our defense played well in the second half, but we were just too far behind. We gave Gunter great field position on turnovers."

The Yellowjackets were first on the scoreboard when Billy Ray Schooling sent the pigskin sailing through the uprights with a 16-yard field goal. But the 'Jackets didn't post another score until the fourth quarter when, with 40 seconds remaining, quarterback Tim Fleming hit Hilton Maynor with a 17-yard touchdown pass. Fleming and Mayor teamed up again for a two point conversion.

The Yellowjackets were behind 17-3 at half-time after Gunter scored 17 points in the first quarter, including a 40-yard fumble recovery touchdown by Bear Tamburin. Gunter posted a touchdown by Paul Nicholson in the third quarter and then a pair of touchdowns by Chad Tucker in the final period.

"We've got lots of things to work on next week," said Cartwright. Boyd hosts Glen Rose next week at Yellowjacket stadium.
