The game was all Bulls as they hammered at the Husky defense with a stout running game. They racked up 300 yards on the ground in the rout.
"They made a lot of mistakes and our defense played very well," said Bridgeport head coach Danny Henson. "Turnovers and good punt returns by Kyle Parker set us up with good field position all night."
The Bulls started most of their scoring drives in Husky territory due to a slew of turnovers and good punt returns.
Junior quarterback Cody Henson kicked off the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run with five minutes left in the first quarter. Bridgeport started that drive on the Husky 16-yard line.
"Our offense sputtered a bit, but we put a lot of points on the scoreboard thanks to the good field position," Henson said.
Two minutes later senior Blake Waldrep scored six on a 6-yard dash into the endzone. That drive started on the Husky 26-yard line.
Early in the second half Bridgeport scored on its only passing touchdown of the night when Henson connected with senior receiver Austin Blevins on a 10-yard pass to paydirt.
Henson ran the ball well from the quarterback spot. He scored three rushing touchdowns, including one impressive 30-yard run almost halfway through the third quarter. He made a nice cut and demonstrated good speed on the score.
The Bulls also got help on the ground from freshman running back Gabe Huerta. Huerta spent the first four games of the season playing on the JV squad. He made his entrance versus Graham in week five and has continued to see playing time ever since. He scored on a 15-yard dash early in the fourth quarter after breaking out to the edge.
"We've got some young guys in the running back position but they are playing older than their years," Henson said.
Bridgeport is now 4-0 in district play and 5-4 overall. Hirschi fell to 1-8 and 0-4 in the district. The win gives the Bulls a spot as a number one seed when playoffs begin.
Henson said the team is now focusing on next Friday's rivalry game at Decatur.
