Two teams, Alvord and Decatur, are still hoping the final math lands them in the playoffs. Both squads will need some help to extend their seasons.

Decatur at 2-6 and 2-2 in District 5-3A still has playoff hopes after scoring a 31-24 victory last Friday over Vernon. The Eagles still have two scenarios that will land them in the playoffs, but none are solely in their hands.

The first scenario requires that Decatur hand Bridgeport its first District 5-3A loss Friday in the Battle of Big Sandy and for Vernon to knock off Iowa Park. The Eagles could fall Friday and still make the postseason, but it gets more complicated. If Decatur loses, they will need Vernon to beat Iowa Park by six, seven or eight points.

An Iowa Park win Friday ends Decatur's season no matter the outcome of the Battle of Big Sandy. Vernon would make the playoffs if Decatur loses Friday, and they beat Iowa Park by nine points or more.

Last week in District 9-2A, Alvord (5-4, 2-2) had a chance to earn its ticket to the postseason for the first time since 2005. The Bulldogs saw that opportunity slip away early in a 38-7 loss to Jacksboro. Jacksboro rolled to a 31-0 halftime lead.

With the lopsided win, Jacksboro tied Alvord and Millsap in the league standings. Jacksboro and Millsap, who beat Jacksboro and lost to Alvord by a point, enjoy a healthy advantage over the Bulldogs in the three-way tie-breaker.

Alvord's lone hope to make the playoffs is to beat Paradise Friday and hope for winless Chico to upset Jacksboro.

Alvord coach Don Deweber said his team has to tackle better Friday to play with Paradise, who will be trying to end its season on a positive note.

"We have to play well," Deweber said. "[Paradise] has got better each week.

"We didn't tackle well early [against Jacksboro]," he added. "We're going to try to regroup and get after Paradise."
