Azle was not accustomed to playing the second half, with the six-man mercy rule, but when the second half started they had to be on the field because there was a Warriors team ready to play the next half. The Warriors went into the game as 45-point underdogs.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Warriors had 347 yards. Leading rusher was Davis Lunsford for 152 yards on 30 carries, one touchdown and two extra-point runs. Blake Popkess was next with 87 yards on 15 carries, three TDs and two conversions. The other TD came on 2-yard run by Levi Shifflet.
The leading tackler was Shifflet with 10, two assists and two fumble recoveries. Jake Renfro had six with an assist and a blocked extra point. Blake Popkess had four with an assist and a safety. Peyton Lunsford caused a fumble. Davis Lunsford returned an interception 40 yards.
Popkess returned four kickoffs for 69 yards.
The Warriors will take on the Joshua Christian Knights at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Jones Park in Decatur.
