The loss keeps the Eagles winless for the season with an 0-5 record.
The Eagle now have to play almost perfect the rest of the season to make the playoffs.
"We have to win three out of the next four games to get into the playoffs," said head coach Kyle Story.
Decatur started the game strong. The Eagles marched 61 yards and scored a touchdown on the first possession of the game. Senior running back Colby Moore scored on a 4-yard dash into the endzone.
But the Hawks responded quickly and proceeded to roll the rest of the half. Junior quarterback Lee Clubb scored on two scrambles and the big senior runningback Richard Smoak scored on a 38-yard rush.
The Hawks led 21-7 going into the half.
But as much as Iowa Park controlled the first half, Decatur proceeded to dominate the second. Decatur ran the ball at will. Moore gashed the Hawk defense with a series of 10-plus yard rushes.
The defense clogged the holes and shut down the running game that Iowa Park has depended on all season.
"The defense played well the second half," Story said. "We were able to stop the run, but we gave up some big pass plays."
Even though Clubb only completed four passes during the entire night, the ones he connected were crucial for the win. After Decatur rallied to tie the game at 21-21 with 10:09 left in the fourth, Iowa Park quickly responded with an 82-yard touchdown reception by Smoak less than one minute later.
With 2:39 left on clock, Decatur pulled out a trick play to tie the game and send it into overtime. Sophomore quarterback Colton Parker pitched the ball out to junior running back Tyler Hodges. Hodges slipped on the wet sod, but managed to straighten up and throw a 21-yard touchdown pass to a wide open Parker scrambling into the endzone.
In overtime, Clubb made a 33-yard touchdown pass on second and long for six, but junior Kris Tucker missed the extra point.
"We thought we were going to get the win when they missed the extra point," Story said. "But we didn't pick up the linebacker and we took a sack."
Parker took two big sacks during Decatur's overtime possession, causing the Eagles to go four and out. Parker took some big hits throughout the evening. He was sacked seven times.
Next week Decatur travels to Wichita Falls Hirschi for their second district game of the season.
