2008 All Wise County Football Team

Player of the Year: Cameron Green

Bridgeport High School, senior, Quarterback

Stats: Cameron completed 198 of 311 passes for a county-best 2,893 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 101 times for 515 yards and six touchdowns.

Coach Danny Henson said: Cameron had a ratio of 21 touchdown passes to only three interceptions through 10 games during the regular season, which is incredible.

Utility Player of the Year

Nick Pike, Paradise
Senior, linebacker/running back

Stats: Nick did a little of everything for the district champs. He carried the ball 86 times for 582 yards and nine touchdowns, and he had 43 catches for 588 yards and six scores. He also had 118 tackles and was named the District 9-2A Most Valuable Player.

Coach Danny Neighbors said: Nick has always done everything we have asked of him and done it extremely well. He is a great player, leader and worker.

Newcomer of the Year

Toi Glover, Paradise
Sophomore, safety

Stats: Toi, who also saw time as backup, chalked up 92 tackles and four interceptions and was selected first-team all-district. He did not play like a newcomer for the District 9-2A champions.

Coach Danny Neighbors said: Toi played in a new position this year and did great. He played extremely well against the run and pass. He was the third leading tackler for us as a sophomore.

Defensive Player of the Year

Zach Bracken, Bridgeport
Senior, linebacker

Stats: The senior, who was also selected as the top defensive player in District 5-3A, finished with a team-high 150 tackles, 14 of which were for a loss of yards.

Coach Danny Henson said: Zach was the leading tackler on a much-improved defense.

Offensive Player of the Year

Corbin Green, Bridgeport
Junior, running back

Stats: The speedy junior carried the ball 187 times for a county-best 1,540 yards and a county-best 31 touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 425 yards and one touchdown.

Coach Danny Henson said: Corbin was the biggest weapon in an offense that averaged 49 points a game.

Kicker of the Year

Ricky Martinez, Bridgeport
Senior, kicker

Stats: Ricky made 74 of 81 point-after tries and was six of seven on field goal attempts, including a 34-yarder in overtime to beat Monahans.

Coach Danny Henson said: Ricky scored 78 points by just kicking in the first 10 games of the season.

Lineman of the Year

Benny Malone, Alvord
Senior, Offensive line/Defensive end

Stats: The talented defensive star for the Bulldogs racked up 97 tackles, including a county-best 29 behind the line of scrimmage. He also caused two fumbles.

Coach Mike Chaney said: Benny was the best defensive end on the county's best defense. He consistently made plays all over. He is an outstanding leader and team captain.

Chad Harrison, Decatur
Senior, receiver
Stats: The three-year letterman had 35 catches for 620 yards and 12 touchdowns. He averaged a county-best 18 yards a catch and scored 81 points.
Coach Kyle Story said: Chad was an outstanding receiver and an explosive playmaker.

Reece Madden, Decatur
Senior, linebacker
Stats: Reece racked up 80 tackles this season, five of which were for loss of yardage and three quarterback sacks. He also blocked five field goals and extra point attempts.
Coach Kyle Story said: He was excellent defending both the run and the pass and blocked several kicks this year.

Matthew Huddleston, Decatur
Senior, running back
Stats: Matt carried the ball 210 times this season for 1,179 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also had 24 catches for 159 yards and one TD. He scored 104 points this season.
Coach Kyle Story said: Matt was an excellent offensive leader for us and he consistently gained tough yards in every game.

Nick Martinez, Decatur
Junior, defensive line
Stats: The talented returning letterman chalked up 44 tackles, four of which were for loss of yards, and three quarterback sacks.
Coach Kyle Story said: Nick has a great work ethic, and he plays hard all the time, no matter what the situation may be. He will continue to be an excellent leader for us.

Kyler Hale, Chico
Senior, running back
Stats: Kyler toted the pigskin 174 times this year for 1,132 yards. He also caught 15 passes for 215 yards and had a total of 15 touchdowns.
Coach Pete Hart said: Kyler is a fast, strong running back with breakaway speed.

Danny Tolliver, Chico
Senior, utility back
Stats: The two-time All Wise County player had 49 carries as a senior for 356 yards for an average of 7.3 yards per carry. He also caught 14 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns.
Coach Pete Hart said: Danny did a great job playing the slot receiver position as he was always a threat to score when the ball was in his hands.

Wacey Jackson, Chico
Senior, center
Stats: The returning starter graded out higher than all linemen.
Coach Pete Hart said: Wacey did a great job this year. He faced several very good nose guards and controlled them very well.

Dylan Pounds, Northwest
Senior, linebacker
Stats: The hard-nosed Texan collected 128 tackles, three quarterback sacks and one interception.
Coach Leonard McAngus said: Dylan was our team leader. He was the heart of our defense.

Stephen Bacik, Northwest
Senior, offensive guard
Stats: The leader of the offensive line graded out at 96 percent and had 10 knockdowns per game.
Coach Leonard McAngus said: Stephen was a unanimous choice for first-team all-district District 5-5A.

Lee Taylor, Northwest
Senior, linebacker
Stats: Lee racked up 95 tackles and a team- and county-high 11 sacks in his final season.
Coach Leonard McAngus said: Lee was the key to all of our success.

Tim Fleming, Boyd
Junior, quarterback
Stats: The signal caller completed 74 of 148 passes for 1,336 yards and 14 touchdowns, He carried the ball 184 times for 1,037 yards and 10 scores.
Coach J.G. Cartwright said: Tim is a lot like our all-state QB Garrett Tidwell that led us to the state championship in 2004, only bigger.

Ryan Wilson, Boyd
Junior, defensive back
Stats: Ryan tied for the team lead in tackles with 70 and recovered three fumbles.
Coach J.G. Cartwright said: Ryan is a two-year starter for us at cornerback.

Kyle Stearns, Boyd
Junior, receiver
Stats: The talented receiver had 35 catches for 850 yards, a county-best average of 24 yards a catch. He also finished with 10 touchdowns for the Yellowjackets.
Coach J.G. Cartwright said: Kyle is almost impossible to defend with single coverage.

Colton Lyon, Boyd
Sophomore, linebacker
Stats: Despite missing three games with an injury, the returning Newcomer of the Year finished with 52 tackles and an interception. He was a first-team all-district pick at linebacker and tight end.
Coach J.G. Cartwright said: Colton had a solid year despite missing three games.

Jeremy Sessums, Boyd
Senior, running back
Stats: The returning starter chalked up 848 yards on 145 carries and had 10 catches for 68 yards in his final season. He finished with 3.085 career-rushing yards.
Coach J.G. Cartwright said: Jeremy has been an outstanding rusher the past three years.

Daniel Olmos, Bridgeport
Senior, receiver
Stats: Daniel had a county-high 796 yards receiving on 49 catches with eight touchdowns.
Coach Danny Henson said: Daniel was out best route runner. He had a lot of clutch catches for us and was a great blocker.

Collin White, Bridgeport
Senior, receiver
Stats: Collin was second in receiving on the county's top offense with 48 catches for 657 yards and six touchdowns.
Coach Danny Henson said: Collin is a great route runner. He has great hands and is a good blocker.

Stewart Price, Bridgeport
Senior, center
Stats: He was one of three Bull linemen selected this year for paving the way for the area's top offense to rack up 453 yards of real estate per game.
Coach Danny Henson said: Stewart had an outstanding year snapping the ball and blocking.

Corey Henson, Bridgeport
Senior, tackle
Stats: He was one of three Bull linemen selected this year for paving the way for the area's top offense to rack up 453 yards of real estate per game.
Coach Danny Henson said: He had a great year run and pass blocking. He was also good on our screen plays. He was a unanimous first-team all-district pick.

Blake Waldrep, Bridgeport
Junior, linebacker
Stats: Blake was second in tackles for the Bulls with 123, including a team-high 16 for a loss of yards. He also caused four fumbles and recovered a team-high five fumbles.
Coach Danny Henson said: Blake is hard hitting and fast. He makes a lot of plays.

Erick Serafin, Bridgeport
Senior, guard
Stats: He was one of three Bull linemen selected this year for paving the way for the area's top offense to rack up 453 yards of real estate per game.
Coach Danny Henson said: Erick is a dominating blocker for the runs and the passes.

Shane Watkins, Alvord
Senior, tailback
Stats: The big, physical runner played only half the season before an ankle injury ended his year. However, he still ran over defenses with 763 yards on 90 carries in four games.
Coach Mike Chaney said: Shane was hard for any defense to bring down. He is the best running back I have ever coached, and he was big and physical.

Trevor Hartfield, Alvord
Junior, quarterback
Stats: The new quarterback completed 63 of 130 passes for 937 yards and six touchdowns. He also carried the ball 138 times for 849 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Coach Mike Chaney said: I'm looking forward to seeing what Trevor does next year. He is a quarterback that can run like a tailback. He accounted for more than 1,700 yards, most of which were in the last four games.

T.J. Houston, Alvord
Sophomore, nose guard
Stats: The 10th grader who was second in voting for Newcomer of the Year posted 50 tackles, five of which were for a loss. He also recovered two fumbles and caused another.
Coach Mike Chaney said: He is an undersized lineman who consistently disrupted offenses and could not be single blocked.

P.J. Fuller, Paradise
Senior, quarterback
Stats: P.J. was second in passing this year in Wise County as he completed 175 of 289 throws for 2,513 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Coach Danny Neighbors said: He came in this year and picked up a new offensive system and had a great year with it.

Cody Webber, Paradise
Senior, tackle/defensive end
Stats: The District 9-2A Defensive Player of the Year graded out at 93 percent at tackle and had 76 tackles and seven quarterback sacks on defense.
Coach Danny Neighbors said: Cody came in and picked up a new defensive position and played extremely well at end. He is very strong and could handle almost anyone one on one.

Thad Limke, Paradise
Senior, kicker
Stats: Consistently kicked very well with placement and height.
Coach Danny Neighbors said: Thad played great for us this year kicking the ball.

C.J. Kerr, Paradise
Senior, defensive end
Stats: The first-team all-district selection finished with 94 tackles, including 11 for a loss of yards. He also collected quarterback sacks, one interception and one caused fumble.
Coach Danny Neighbors said: C.J. goes all out, every play. He is an excellent defensive end with great quickness.

Caleb Read, Paradise
Junior, tailback/special teams
Stats: He rushed 44 times for 232 yards and four touchdowns and caught 34 passes for 604 yards and four scores. Caleb also returned 28 punts for 572 yards and two touchdowns.
Coach Danny Neighbors said: I don't know if anyone is quicker than Caleb. He just made outstanding plays for us all year offensively and on special teams.

Conner Higgins, Paradise
Junior, split end/cornerback
Stats: Conner was dangerous this year and had 32 catches for 703 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had 21 tackles and four interceptions.
Coach Danny Neighbors said: Conner is very fast and very coachable. He is athletic and came back from an injury and had a great year.
