Northwest senior sprinter Chris Bain was slowed by a hamstring injury but still had enough speed to earn the gold medal in the 100-meter dash Saturday at the Texan Relays.
Bain tweaked his hamstring in the first event of the finals, the 4x100 relay, when the starting block slipped. He was able to recover in the race and get the baton to his teammate first. Northwest finished second with a 42.62.
Minutes later in the 100, Bain ran a 10.6 to beat Lewisville's Jordan Holt by four-tenths of a second and take gold.
He said the hamstring prevented him from posting his best time in the 100. He ran 10.35 the week before.
