Decatur, Alvord compete in Lewisville

Zuleima Paloma placed 14th and Hanna Galloway 15th as the top-ranked Decatur Lady Eagles finished eighth in the 5A division of Saturday's Marcus II Invitational cross country meet, held at Copperas Branch Park on Lake Lewisville.

The pair were timed in 12:09 and 12:10, respectively. Teammate Natalie Neighbors ran a 12:27, good for 29th.

Bianca Morrison was 59th in 12:57 and Veronica Torres covered the course in 13:14 for 70th.

Rebecca Roose turned in a 13:38 for 95th, and Whitney Vrba was 116th in 14:10. There were 18 teams and 136 runners entered.

The fourth-ranked Decatur boys also ran against 5A competition. Cris Ortiz had the best finish, 35th in 17:17. Alex Forbis placed 71st in 18:04, Gustavo Huerto 77th in 18:15, Chase Saunders 106th in 19:37, Remmington May 112th in 20:05, Pablo Rivas 117th in 20:28, and Travis Kyle 119th in 20:35.

The Eagles placed 14th of 19 teams. Some 135 runners competed.

Alvord girls earned a second place finish in the 3A and under division, while Decatur's second team placed seventh.

Jordan Ward placed eighth in 13:03, Chelsey Steele 10th in 13:20, Becky Hofsiss 13th in 13:31, Ashley Musgrave 14th in 13:31 and Caly Rangel 27th in 14:18 to compile 67 points.

Trinity Christian won with 49. Also for Alvord, Carley King was 37th in 14:40 and Robyn Musgrave 56th in 15:29.

Paulina Sanchez ran a 14:16 for Decatur, good for 26th. Katie Brown placed 36th in 14:39, Astrid Mendez 38th in 14:46, Tamara Maywald 43rd in 14:57, Elise Keller 46th in 15:04, Casie Morgan 59th in 15:46 and Hannah Davidson 60th in 15:57. There were eight teams and 63 runners.

In the boys 3A and under division, Decatur's second team was ninth, led by Gunner Dailey in 29th with a 20:25. Michael Smyers placed 47th in 21:56, Tim Slimp 58th in 23:14, Daniel Smyers 62nd in 23:58 and Shane Pogue 72nd in 29:40.
