Area teams compete in Decatur

With four runners in the top 10, the Decatur girls edged Carroll 40-44 for the team title in Saturday's cross-country meet at Decatur.

The top-ranked Lady Eagles won the varsity 4A-5A division while the Eagle boys were runnersup, also in 4A-5A.

The 1A-3A division saw Boyd boys take third, while the girls 1A-3A had Alvord in third and Slidell's Allie Staub with a runner up finish. Two Paradise runners placed 3-4 in the boys event.

Decatur's Hanna Galloway led the top girls division with an 11:49.02 to win by 2.24 seconds. Natalie Neighbors placed fifth in 12:12.26, Zuleima Paloma eighth in 12:13.48 and Bianca Morrison 10th in 12:16.83. Veronica Torres was 16th to earn the final Decatur points in 12:44.87, edging the final Carroll runner by less than a second.

Also placing for Decatur were Rebecca Roose, 22nd in 12:59.56, and Sutton Young, 37th in 13:35.46.

Decatur boys compiled 83 points. Keller Central dominated with 15 points. The Eagles edged Alvarado, with 86 in third. Cris Ortiz earned top spot for the Eagles, running a 14:48.77 for seventh. Gustavo Huerta placed 17th in 15:26.54, Alex Forbis 20th in 15:41.66, Chase Saunders 24th in 15:48.73 and Eric Pedroza 26th in 15:48.73.

Also placing for Decatur were Remmington May, 41st in 16:33.62, and Pablo Rivas, 44th in 16:51.21.

Paradise's Gavin Von Hueval was third and Logan Bailey fourth in the boys 1A-3A race. Times were 15:15.65 and 15:33.65, respectively.

Boyd totaled 70 points behind Prosper with 33 and Krum with 55. Top finisher for Boyd was Kyle Dunn, 13th in 16:29.18 and Keaton Scruggs, 14th in 16:35.98. Jake May was 20th in 16:57.44, Matt Shearer 22nd in 17:05.16 and Austin Booth 26th in 17:15.17.

Decatur's second team was fifth, led by Michael Smyers in 25th, Travis Kyle in 30th, Daniel Smyers in 41st, Tim Slimp in 42nd and Caleb Jones in 45th. Shane Pogue was 49th.

Staub ran an 11:47.48 for runnerup, just 1.92 seconds out of the lead. The Lady Greyhounds were 10th overall, with Katy Stephens in 52nd, Chanel Brewer in 72nd, Sarah Davis 73rd, Fernanda Martinez 74th and Nicol Verdugo 75th.

Alvord scored 103 points, behind Seymour with 32 and Lindsay with 79. Top finisher was Jordan Ward in 14th with a 12:38.74. Ashley Musgrave was 19th in 12:49.06, Chelsey Steele 22nd in 12:51.27, Becky Hofsiss 24th in 12:56.33, and Caly Rangel 35th in 13:17.96. Also for the Lady Bulldogs, Carley King was 46th and Madi Lynch 48th.

Paradise was sixth with 152 points. Shanee Gober's 12:39.54 was good for 15th and the top spot for the Lady Panthers. Lauren Brinson placed 20th in 12:49.79, Ashley Sparks 34th in 13:13.44, Kim Sadler 36th in 13:19.61 and Gabbie Von Hueval 65th in 14:16.26.

Decatur's second team was led by Whitney Vrba in 50th, Tamera Maywald in 51st, Macky Dailey in 56th, Katie Brown in 60th, Haleigh Newville in 61st and Paulina Sanchez in 69th.

Boyd sent three runners. Katie Mark took sixth in 12:17.39, Skylar Truly 27th in 13:05.67 and Courtney Sanders 41st in 13:24.47.

Decatur and Paradise were 1-2 in boys junior high while the girls junior high race saw Paradise, Decatur and Alvord finish 1-2-3. Complete junior high and junior varsity results will be published in next week's All Around Wise.
