Keep an eye out for ghosts next time you're last to leave the game
By Robert Morgan | Published Thursday, October 30, 2008

But while many people aim for good, old-fashioned fun during Halloween, thrill-seekers take extreme measures this time of year to have the daylights scared out of them. People sneak into abandoned houses and buildings in anticipation of experiencing paranormal sights and sounds, or venture into old graveyards hoping to see wispy, floating, ghostly shapes.

There have been a few scary ghost sightings that have been shared over the years that involve local schools or opponents of our area teams. Here are a few of the ghostly stories that have been told over the years.

- The phantom of a pregnant woman can sometimes be seen at Eagle Stadium in Decatur late at night pulling a dead body over rocks. It has been alleged that this is the ghost of a vacationer who was murdered while traveling through Decatur a long time ago.

- Current and former students at Castleberry High School say that the building was built on an old Indian burial ground. According to some witnesses, if you go up the flight of steps that leads to the roof of the campus, you will hear voices that do not belong to anyone living.

- A little dog runs around the Iowa Park High School campus early each morning before sunrise and the start of class. During this time computers in the basement turn on and off for a short period of time.

- The ghost of a tied up male has every now and then been noticed in Bull Memorial Stadium around midnight. This image has frightened many people. There is no particular time of the year that this ghost has made itself known.

- The fine arts building at Texas Weslyan University in Fort Worth has been known to scare away many students and staff members. A ghostly observer sits in the audience during rehearsals, roams the building and plays the piano. Students call her Georgia.

Another less frequent haunting has been in the west library at TWU. A smell of smoke, choking sensations and a feeling of being watched has been reported by several students in the last 20 years.

- The ghost of an elderly lady hauling a gun has been seen on several occasions in a Paradise secondary campus. This ghost has been seen very late at night marching up and down the hallways.

- Burkburnett High School is said to be haunted by dozens of people in the last two decades. The English wing is believed to be haunted by longtime teacher Mrs. Page.

Coincidentally, the wing was once known as Page Hall. Teachers and janitors have reported hearing sounds, voices and doors slamming in the wing. Some janitors have refused to go down that hall by themselves late in the night.
