The Decatur High School cheerleaders' annual mini cheer camp is 10 a.m. to noon July 27-29 at the high school gym. Campers will work on jumps, motions, dances and fun games. The cost is $40 ($45 if paid after July 1). Registration forms can be picked up at Carson or Rann elementaries, The Magic Pony, Hip Chic Boutique or Juleez on the square. Decatur girls basketball coach Billy Garner has set the annual Decatur Lady Eagle Basketball Camp for June 29-July 2 from 9 a.m. to noon for all girls entering first through eighth grades. Group and individual instruction will be given by the DHS basketball staff, area coaches and former Decatur standouts. Camper will learn a variety of skills including shootings, dribbling, passing, defense and team play. Awards will be given for each age group. The cost is $55 per camper and $30 for siblings. Wise County girls select basketball team
The DFW Lady Lakers select basketball team is forming an additional team that will be mostly made up of Wise County athletes. To try out for the varsity team, send an e-mail to team@ladylakers.com or visit www.ladylakers.com.
Decatur Lady Eagle Volleyball Camp
Decatur volleyball coach Claire Rose and her staff will host the annual Decatur Lady Eagle Volleyball Camp June 15-18 at the high school. School coaches and DHS alumni will give group and individual instruction and will touch on the basics of serving, passing, attacking, blocking, setting and digging. Awards will be given in each age group. Girls entering third through fifth grades will attend from 8 to 11 a.m., while spikers going into grades sixth though eighth will participate from noon to 3 p.m. Registration forms are available at all schools or by calling Coach Rose at (214) 418-6678.
Decatur hosting first soccer camp
The inaugural Decatur Eagles Summer Soccer Camp for boys and girls in first through sixth grades will be held June 29-July 2. All campers will learn a variety of fundamentals while having fun in the first soccer camp ever held by a Wise County school. Kids in grades first through third will camp from 9 to 11 a.m., while all fourth through sixth graders will be on the field from noon to 2 p.m. The cost is $60 in adavance and $70 on the first day. Wise County men's basketball league
A Wise County men's basketball league is tipping off this month at Alvord High School. The league will be open to the first 10 teams to sign up. All others will be placed on a waiting list. The cost is $475 per team, which includes officiating, jerseys and awards for the champion. League play started Wednesday nights, June 10, and runs though July 22 with games starting at 5 p.m. There will be a season-ending single elimination tournament July 25. Memorial golf tournament tees off in June
The second annual Bryan Ledet Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament is Saturday, June 27, at The Club at Runaway Bay. The event will get under way with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. There will be prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin, first-place, 10th-place and 20th-place teams. In addition, the first hole-in-one will win a 2009 GMC single cab. The Decatur High School athletic department said solicitors are asking local businesses to buy advertisements for a calendar, but the department has not authorized anyone to produce a calendar. The school does not receive any proceeds from this.
