Youth baseball team car wash this weekend
The Wise County Raiders baseball team will be hosting a car wash Saturday in the parking lot of Meyers Agency at 1205 Halsell St. in Bridgeport from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The team is raising money to travel to the Super Series Summer Nationals in Woodland Park, Colo. Any donations will be greatly appreciated. The boys are also selling raffle tickets at $5 each for a chance to win an autographed Tony Romo football, an autographed Kasey Kahne Nascar collectible car, a $50 Wal-Mart gift card, four tickets to Hurricane Harbor, a Coca-Cola Family Fun Pack for four and Ranger ticket combo, a dinner/movie combo, manicure/pedicure gift card and a $250 gift card for The Great Wolfe Lodge. Tickets will be for sale at the car wash and at Jearene's Cottage, Gotta Have That, Selz and Herschler Denistry, Brandi's Kitchen, Germania Insurance, and State Farm Insurance in Decatur as well as other locations. Sign up for benefit softball tournament
A coed softball tournament to benefit Laura Jeanna is Saturday, July 11, at Renshaw Park in Decatur. Jeanna was in a horse accident that left her paraplegic, and all proceeds will go toward her medical bills. The tournament is $150 per team, and prizes will be awarded for first and second places. Paradise physicals coming soon
Physicals for all Paradise athletes will be in late July. The girls' physicals will be 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, and the boys' physicals will be Thursday, July 30. Cost of the exam at the high school is $20 per student.
Bridgeport physicals set
All athletes entering seventh, ninth and 11th grades and those entering eighth, 10th and 12th grades who have had a broken bone, concussion, major illness or surgery within the past year must have a new physical before the first day of practices for their sport. This year's physicals will be at the high school gym for $15. Forms are available from coach Billy Newsom or they can be downloaded at www.uil.utexas.edu/forms. Boys' physicals are 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 27, and girls' are 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 28. For more information, call Newsom at (940) 683-4066.
Decatur cheer camp coming soon
The Decatur High School cheerleaders' annual mini cheer camp is 10 a.m. to noon, July 27-29, at the high school gym. Campers will work on jumps, motions, dance and fun games. The cost is $40 ($45 if paid after July 1). Registration forms can be picked up at Carson or Rann elementaries, The Magic Pony, Hip Chic Boutique or Juleez on the square.
