The 12U North Texas Gladiators baseball team is looking for players to fill three spots. The team will play in the NTI league and tournaments for the 2009 season. The Gladiators will be taught by a professional coach. Open practice will be held Sunday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m. For information, call head coach Shane Sykes at (940) 367-1435.

Submitting results for high school and middle school football and volleyball is simple for Wise County coaches. Simply log onto www.wcmessenger.com, go to the sports tab and click on the coaches area. There is no need to fax any paperwork as it can all be done online. The Wise County Little Dribblers basketball association is now accepting registration for the winter season. Sign-ups will end on Nov. 14. Call (940) 393-4269 to sign up. Forms are also available at Rann and Carson elementary schools

The 2008 Sarah's Cure 5K and Kids K Fun Run will be Saturday, Oct. 11 in downtown Decatur. This is a benefit event for runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels. The start/finish line will be at the courthouse. Water and fruit will be provided for all participants, and awards will be given to the top five male and females runners in the 5K and to all kids in the fun run. The Decatur High School varsity cheerleaders and Eagle Dolls dance team collected money at Friday night's home game against Prosper for the Chili's St. Jude's benefit. DHS cheer sponsor Jason Williams was proud to report that the collection was turned in and helped raise the total collected so far to more than $15,000.

BATTLE PLAN - County Judge Bill McElhaney has called a special meeting of Wise County Commissioners for Thursday afternoon to discuss how to oppose the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's planned addition of Wise County to the nine-county Metroplex "non-attainment" zone for air quality. Judge McElhaney said he will also invite the county's mayors, economic development corporation chairmen, city managers and industry representatives to the meeting set for 1:30 p.m. at the Wise County Law Enforcement Center.
