Decatur held Denton to 10 points or less in every quarter of a 51-30 victory Monday night at the Bronco Pit in Denton.
"We played really good defensively," said Decatur head coach Billy Garner. "They had one tough player that we had a hard time stopping early, then we went to a zone. They did a good job in it."
Decatur held Denton to just four points in the second quarter, building a 30-12 halftime lead. The Decatur lead grew to 43-20 by the end of the third quarter.
Decatur controlled the glass in the game, pulling down 36 rebounds. Brooke Fincher led the team, pulling down nine rebounds.
"We did a real good job on the boards," Garner said.
Jordan Alker led the team in scoring with 12 points. Kelsey Garner added 11 and Macie Dane 8. Mercy Staley finished with four steals, five rebounds and four assists.
"I was extremely pleased with the way we played and executed," Garner said. "We got in foul trouble and went into a motion offense at the end, and the kids executed it."
