| Decatur standout Matt Huddleston has had quite the year. He chalked up more awards than some athletes earn in a high school career, including state player of the year for his 263-yard performance against Dallas Madison, all-district and all-Wise County. |
| Next week the senior will be recognized for his excellence in sports and in the classroom when he is featured as the Channel 8 Dale Hansen Scholar Athlete of the Week. This will be the second time this school year that a Decatur athlete has received the honor. Senior Sydney Lawrence was featured during cross country season last November. The segment will air Sunday, May 17, during the 10:40 p.m. high school sports show. Huddleston, who is currently preparing for the regional track and field meet, was chosen for the Dale Hansen honor based on many factors, including grade-point average, class rank, athletic accomplishments, academic achievements, community involvement and volunteer services and future plans. In his final year of football, the Eagle running back ran for 1,179 yards and 16 touchdowns. He is also a member of the district champion 1,600-meter relay team. Huddleston plans to attend Oklahoma State University next fall. He is the son of Kent and Jamie Huddleston and the younger brother of Laramie. |
