The defending District 8-3A champion Bridgeport High School boys' golf team looks nothing like it did a year ago. The group returned to the greens this week with four freshmen and a sophomore among its new faces and did not disappoint coaches.
The Bulls took two teams to the Willow Springs tournament on Tuesday and delivered impressive results. The top group finished third overall with a score of 342 and the second five came in 12th at 399.

"This was a great showing from both teams. Seven of our boys had never played in a tournament before," said BHS coach Jim Caldwell. "This will be a rebuilding year for the varsity team that graduated five players from last year."

Colleyville Heritage and L.D. Bell, both Class 5A schools, took the top two spots at 330 and 340, respectively.

The Bulls' first group did not play like a team rebuilding and playing in its first tournament. Four of the boys putted below 85 for the day to lead the way to a top-three finish.

Cameron Brazier was the top putter for Bridgeport as he carded an 81, five strokes behind winner Glenn McBride of Ponder at 76. Andrew Vaughn and James Coffman were strong in their debut as they each fired a round of 84 for the day.

Ethan Coursey was next in for the Bulls after he recorded a 93 for the day, five strokes ahead of Scott White at 98. Corey Henson was next at 103.

Bridgeport's second group was led by Cody Carraway and Rusty Tedder who carded 99. Parker Eaton was one stroke back at 100, while Tyler Hughes came in at 101 and Billy Grinnell posted a 102.

"This year's group has worked very hard so far in practice," Caldwell said. "We might surprise some people with this group, which is very young."
