The Bridgeport High School girls' golf team is used to taking a trip to West Texas every April, and this year will be no different after taking care of business at the District 5-3A tournament.
The Sissies, who have only missed going to regionals only once this decade, secured their plans Monday in Wichita Falls where they beat out Vernon by 39 strokes to capture the second and final bid to regionals.
Burkburnett, which swept the team titles, cruised to the girls' title by 100 strokes over Bridgeport (762-862). Both teams will compete at the Class 3A, Region I finals next week in Lubbock.
Decatur, the second biggest school in the district, did not have enough girls to field a team. However, Lady Eagle Anne Smith delivered individually to earn a spot at regionals as she finished 10th overall with a two-day score of 228, which included rounds of 111 and 117.
The top two teams and first 10 individuals from each district advance to regionals in all classifications.
The Sissies only led Vernon by 10 strokes after the first round but got a big showing in the final round by their top three putters to pull away and secure second place in the team standings.
Three-year letterman Paige Walker, who fired rounds of 91 and 87, led the way for Bridgeport as she finished third overall and took the bronze medal with a total of 178. Burkburnett's Brenna Moore carded a 155 (77-78) to beat out teammate Kristi Pickett (76-85-161) for the individual title.
Michelle Trickel had the next lowest score for the Sissies and was fifth overall after firing rounds of 106 and 103 for a 209. She finished tied in total score with Jennifer Alaniz of Vernon and Shianne Harlan of Burkburnett.
Ashley Lockhart was the third Sissie in the top 10 as she came in ninth overall. She carded rounds of 116 and 110 for a district score of 226.
Cassie Smith was fourth among the Sissies after she carded a 249 (119-130) and Xyanthe Williams came in at 280 (136-144).
Decatur also had two other girls seeking a trip to regionals. Taylor Lindsey was 16th overall after putting a 261 (125-136), and Ashley Peacock came in at 272 (136-136).
