His freckled face lights up when he smiles, which is most of the time. His reddish blonde hair, in an Ian Kinsler cut (minus the curls) peers out from beneath his cap. At 5'3" he is tall for his age, but on a golf course dominated by grown men and women, he draws attention for his small stature.

Kristin Shoppa. Get used to that name because she is quickly make waves on the national rodeo circuit, and she is back at it this week. The Decatur girl finished sixth in barrel racing in the first go at the 61st annual National High School Rodeo Association's finals in Farmington, N.M., this week. There are 165 high school barrel racers from as far away as Australia and Canada. Shoppa was to run her second go Friday morning.

Last year Decatur won just two district championships in the 10 main sports but managed to win the 2008-2009 Wise County Cup. Their dominance was threatened this year when the football team failed to make the playoffs for the first time in six years and the softball team endured its first losing season this decade.

With nearly four months of practice behind them, the Decatur Quest Aquatics competitive swim team had high expectations going into Long Course Meters Swimming Championship Meet in The Colony on Saturday. Consider the event a huge splash for a group of talented swimmers from throughout Wise County as dozens of spectacular times were recorded.

TODAY'S UPDATE
NEW BOUNDARIES - The Decatur School Board last night approved new elementary attendance boundaries to take effect with the opening of the district's third elementary next fall. Generally, areas on the west side of the district are zoned into Rann Elementary, areas on the east side of the district are zoned into Carson Elementary and southern areas of the district including much of the downtown area of Decatur are zoned into Young Elementary.
