America tired of Republican rants
By Ken Hughes | Published Thursday, October 29, 2009
The Republican National Committee's master Michael Steel, in a memorable bovine/iron horse analogy remarked to the neocon noisemaker fix-network that the health care reform train was leaving the station with President Obama at the wheel, and Obama had better look out as "he is a cow on the tracks." One can only wonder why Steel classified himself as a cow rather than a bull, but I won't argue.

Talk about poor analogies; clearly Mr. Steel doesn't know that trains don't use or need steering wheels, and moreover, he's exceptionally poorly versed on the disastrous history of cow versus locomotive encounters. Hopefully the progressive locomotive's cow-catcher will handle Mr. Steel gently and only toss him more or less unharmed alongside the tracks as America's train to the 21st century rolls on into the future.

The RNC official head further besmirched his and the RNC's dignity, such as it is today, by wishing for a "Rodney King moment on healthcare." In Steel's fantasy, one can only wonder who is holding the club and who is being beaten on the ground; talk about malapropisms and mixed metaphors - wow. Of course, Mr. Steel is unmatched in that category. That's what one gets I suppose when a political leader is chosen for appearance rather than ability.

Listening with disgust to the RNC shadow leaders Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck's essentially anti-American glee and orgy of self-congratulation when the International Olympic Committee selected Rio de Janeiro over Obama's hometown for an Olympic site was nothing compared to the existential pleasure of watching their heads and roughly all neocon/theocon heads explode one week later with Obama's Nobel Peace Prize award. Jackie Gleason never knew the truth of his comment "How sweet it is." I hereby nominate George W. Bush for the "War Monger of the Decade Award," new "motivational speaker" that he is, but motivation for what, one wonders.

As I predicted some time back, America is moving, if ever so slowly, against pure Republican opposition toward universal health care. Just as Republicans fought tooth and nail against Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and all other hugely beneficial social programs they now embrace, they will fight a long, but eventually losing, battle against health care reform in the U.S. America is tired and worn out with the Republican/health insurance industry quid-pro-quo giveaway of America's health and wealth.
