Remember when Veterans Day (Nov. 11) was called "Armistice Day" or "Remembrance Day?" Well, I will remember this past Veterans Day for years to come no matter what you call it because it was truly "a day to remember."
The ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Park was very impressive. The band from Chico High School, plus the short but patriotic program, made it a wonderful way to celebrate the day. I also attended a program the students and staff of Carson Elementary School put on for some of the students relatives who were veterans. Also in attendance and being honored were 16 men and one woman from the Wise County Veterans Group.
After the program, the students came by and thanked all the veterans for coming and for our service to the country. The veterans that attended enjoyed the program and commented on how well behaved the students were.
Ms. Jackie Patrick did an outstanding job in leading the fourth grade with the singing and the different speaking roles. The entire student body also sang a few songs, and everyone ended the program singing "God Bless America" while using sign language.
The principals, Kim Barker and Kyle Sorg, plus all the teachers at Carson Elementary should be congratulated for their fine work in honoring veterans. If you have a child who attends Carson Elementary, you can be sure they are in the hands of dedicated professionals.
