As a public servant I always find budget time to be very interesting. It's amazing how even in good economic times - this is not one obviously - there are people complaining about taxes.
What I have noticed is that all these concerned citizens worry about the effect on their houses but never mind the hard working men and women that keep their communities safe and provide the services we all count on. Is that where you really want to cut corners? But I'm sure there will be a public meeting to make this up to the employees just as soon as times get better, right?
With that said it appears this lower tax rate will mean less than $100 per household a year over the proposed rate. Meanwhile the county employees will lose $400 each. Yes, lose the money, as I understand this "raise" would have just covered the medical premium increase. I must have missed the public outcry meeting to get them more affordable insurance. Then we bash the ones that dare ask for a raise. I'm referring to the statement "...they haven't proven they're worth what we pay them." This person is advised to go to county commissioner meetings to see the elected officials at work. When did she ride along with the constables to see them in action before making such bold statements?
Once again we will not hesitate to ask others to do without so that we don't.
