In response to Mr. Richardson's recent letter to the editor you are so untruthful in so many ways I do not know where to start. The fact is that you were fully aware of the racist history about the lake accesses in Newark and you even brought it up at the last county commissioner's court meeting I attended.
The point of my letter is that they are antiquated and have been a constant problem for everyone which you seem to be the only elected county official that can't get it.
You mention county money being spent by you. Need I remind you it is our money, the taxpayer's money, you are spending so freely? Don't get me wrong. You just spent, and I would have to guess, 5 to 7 thousand dollars on a fence for my yard. But you spent money on a fence to protect the public from my dog? Since when does the county commissioner take on the responsibilities of our sheriff's department or the dog catchers? Are you going to do this for everyone else or just your friends?
One of the largest untruths you quoted was that I have been verbally abusive to those trying to use the facility. Actually over the years I have helped many neighbors get unstuck from the mud. Shovels and ropes were kept down by the lake for their use until they were stolen. The only people I have ever had words with are those that came to drink and do drugs, late night sex stops, child molesters, poachers and those who are cranked up on speed. I have been robbed more than once. My cars, garage and fences have been damaged by people backing their boats over three football fields to reach the lake. What Ms. Bonnie Neal does not know is that when the lake is down it is unusable at all the ramps. Just because you can see water doesn't make it deep. It is 3 to 4 feet deep across the bay. So no matter if you poured a concrete ramp to the other side of the lake it would still be unusable.
Mr. Richardson you have failed to spend the taxpayer's money wisely and made expensive decisions on personal feelings. You consistently fail to meet the most very basic minimum of standards expected from an elected county official. My only hope is that the other elected officials around you speak with you privately and try to get you back on track with the people that put you in office. You do remember the Republican mantra, "Less government. Less spending."
