Team deserved more coverage
By Dixie Parks | Published Thursday, November 5, 2009
Just a few things about the Decatur horse judging team. These girls, along with Mr. Allsup have worked together for two years. He has spent endless hours with them.
Charity is obligation of people, not government
By Eddie R. Dunlap | Published Thursday, November 5, 2009
It is better to remain quiet and have people thought you a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Such a quote must be foreign to Ken Hughes after his rant in the Oct. 29 issue of the Wise County Messenger.
Residents help stop purse snatcher
By Angela Fincher | Published Thursday, November 5, 2009
Jim and Stefanie Nation of Wise County are to be commended for being good Samaritans and quick thinkers. They witnessed a young male grab a woman's purse in the Target parking lot in Watauga.
President not under influence of Antichrist
By Ella Jay Neal-Tubbs | Published Thursday, November 5, 2009
I read the letter from Ted Shaw with outrage, even though I also wanted to laugh. It was one of the most ridiculous and insulting things I've seen in my 89 years.
Board declares certain youth ineligible
By Cindy Barksdale | Published Sunday, November 1, 2009
On Monday night, Aug. 10, a decision was made by the Wise County Youth Fair Board to exclude children of divorced families by not allowing them to participate in the Wise County Youth Fair. The children targeted were ones that live with one parent in Wise County and live and go to school with a parent in another county. The parents have joint custody. Families of these divorced children do live in Wise County, own businesses in Wise County, work in Wise County and pay taxes in Wise County. In addition, they support a wide variety of businesses in Wise County.

Projects funded by previous bond
By Tad Billmire | Published Thursday, October 29, 2009
I have been following the comments about the DISD bond election on the Liberally Lean from the Land of Dairy Queen blog. A couple of the comments jumped out at me in regard to the idea that a lot of these proposed projects in this new bond were funded previously in the bond that passed in 2003 that also funded the new high school.
Vote to keep Texas beaches open
By Paulette Layfield | Published Thursday, October 29, 2009
We own property on the Bolivar Peninsula in what used to be Gilchrist. Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson made a comment, after Hurricane Ike, about Gilchrist, that just flew all over me. I fired off a letter to a bunch of newspapers admonishing the commissioner for his lack of regard for the people of Gilchrist.
America tired of Republican rants
By Ken Hughes | Published Thursday, October 29, 2009
The Republican National Committee's master Michael Steel, in a memorable bovine/iron horse analogy remarked to the neocon noisemaker fix-network that the health care reform train was leaving the station with President Obama at the wheel, and Obama had better look out as "he is a cow on the tracks." One can only wonder why Steel classified himself as a cow rather than a bull, but I won't argue.
Spirit of the Antichrist influencing leaders
By Ted H. Shaw | Published Sunday, October 25, 2009
I have come to the conclusion that America is losing its way fast not only due to the current administration, but also because of many liberal elected Congressmen and appointed Supreme Court Justices, including the latest liberal Supreme Court Justice. We Americans who care should get involved and do it quickly.
Leave parking spaces for patrons
By Anne Sollee | Published Thursday, October 22, 2009
I am so aggravated at all of the courthouse employees and attorneys who office on the downtown historic square. And I am not the only one.
Thanks for food donations
By Christie Rhine | Published Thursday, October 22, 2009
We would like to thank everyone for donations to the food drive.
Thanks for supporting fall fest
By Bobbie Ashley | Published Thursday, October 22, 2009
The Greenwood Extension Education Club would like to say "thank you" for the very interesting article on our club and festival. During the festival, I had many nice compliments regarding it.
Thanks for Night Out
By Glenda Goodwin | Published Sunday, October 18, 2009
A huge thank you to the dozens of people responsible for Tuesday's "Texas Night Out." It was an amazing effort to publicize many helping groups in Wise County - especially our police and fire departments.
Where does money go in BISD?
By George Parker | Published Sunday, October 18, 2009
How is the Bridgeport Independent School District spending our tax dollars? It seems that they never seem to have enough money, yet, the quality of education appears to not be increasing with the increase of funds.
Vote yes for Bridgeport bond
By Mary J. Howard | Published Thursday, October 15, 2009
Bridgeport ISD places two important issues in the hands of voters Nov. 3. While I was on the facilities committee and support proposition 1, most of us can readily see why we need classrooms and the importance of maintaining facilities.
Afghanistan is lost cause
By Ken Hughes | Published Sunday, October 11, 2009
Will someone from the neocon tea party shouting society please tell me why we're in Afghanistan?

I would like to say "thank you so much" to the person that flashed their lights at me Thursday, Oct. 1, around 8:30 p.m. on Farm Road 2123 in Bridgeport.
