It has been seven years since I started shooting photos for the Messenger. I remember getting up every morning with fresh eyes - every day was a new day.
Most of the time shooting an assignment for a feature story, spot news or sports becomes redundant. I mean, after seven years of shooting the same events, sometimes all "fun" means is finding something new.
A job is not always fun when it becomes work, which can leave the passion end a little short. Jusphophun, a blog I recently started on the Messenger's Web site at the suggestion of the powers that be, just may be that new thing.
In the beginning, I thought this would be another task to work into my day, but as it turns out, it has been a fantastic learning experience, not to mention an inspiration for shooting. If nothing else, it gives me a reason to take a cool photograph and share it if I choose.
Even if nobody reads it, I still have a reason to look at my photos, dissect them and try to figure out how I can improve. But I have had a lot of feedback, which has helped me direct my attention and focus more on the direction that I want to take my work.
I started this roughly 60 days ago not knowing where I wanted to go with it, and now I find myself looking forward to coming up with my next post.
Initially my intention was to just post one photo a day, no words, just a visual projection from my mind one day at a time. Now after working on it for 60 days, I find that I do enjoy giving a bit of information while keeping it as simple as possible. After all, if your photo doesn't tell the story, will words? That being said, I will try to include a brief explanation of how I took a photo, why I took the photo or what I used to take the photo.
It's funny sometimes how something so small and simplistic can give you a whole new inspiration for doing things. For those of you who are reading and visiting the Web site please let me know what you think.
Remember, just because it's a job doesn't mean it can't be fun.
