Graveside service for Velma W. Garrett, 89, of Fort Worth, formerly of Wise County, was to be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at West Bridgeport Cemetery.
Graveside service for Velma W. Garrett, 89, of Fort Worth, formerly of Wise County, was to be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at West Bridgeport Cemetery.

Garrett died Saturday, June 27, 2009, in Fort Worth.

Born Jan. 2, 1920, in Risco, Mo., to Alpha James and Mable (Reeves) Allen, she was a gardener of flowers and vegetables. She enlisted in the Army Air Corps the Monday after Pearl Harbor was bombed and served until 1946.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Thomas W. Garrett; and a son, Thomas A. Garrett

She is survived by grandchildren, Amanda Garrett, Caitlyn Garrett and James Garrett; sisters, Lois Norris and Betty Pfeffer; brothers, Sonny Allen and Gary Allen; and great-grandchildren, Angel, Marion and H. W. Jr.
