Funeral for Juanita Spencer, 84, of Boyd was to be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd. Brian Hurley, Rocky Bransom and Donna Spencer were to speak at the service. Burial was to be at Boyd Cemetery.
Funeral for Juanita Spencer, 84, of Boyd was to be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd. Brian Hurley, Rocky Bransom and Donna Spencer were to speak at the service. Burial was to be at Boyd Cemetery.

Spencer died Sunday, June 28, 2009, in Azle.

Born Aug. 28, 1924, in Decatur to Orell Butler and Margarete (Newsome) Hague, she married Norris Spencer Feb. 17, 1942, in Boyd. She was a certified medication aide in a Decatur nursing home for 26 years and had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Boyd since 1942. She was a professional volleyball player and bowler, a member of the Boyd No. 897 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Rainbow Advisory Board of Azle Assembly. She also sewed, quilted, crocheted and embroidered.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995.

She is survived by her sons, W.R. "Dickie" Spencer of Cleburne and T.K. "Tommy" Spencer and wife, Donna, of Boyd; grandchildren, Angie Branson and husband, Rocky, of Burleson, Amie Nelson and husband, Lee, of Brock, Kim Myatt and husband, Gerald, of Oklahoma, Kent Spencer and wife, Kristen, of Boyd, Brian Hurley and wife, Heather, of Saginaw and Barry Hurley and wife, Sandy, of Weatherford; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Doris Zigmunt and husband, Tom, of Hollywood, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were to be Kent Spencer, Brian Hurley, Rocky Bransom, Gerald Myatt, Lee Nelson and Barry Hurley. Honorary pallbearers were to be Bobby Jack Cruz, Audie Phillips, Warren Saulter, Alvin Bassham, Raymond Jordan, Tommy Earnest and Jackie Read.

Memorials may be made to the Boyd Cemetery Association.
