| Graveside service for Yvonne Hunt Hachtel, 87, of Bowie, formerly of Decatur, was June 16 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur with David Hall officiating. |
Hachtel died Friday, June 12, 2009, in Bowie.
Born Dec. 31, 1921, in Frederick, Okla., to Thurman and Jewell (Todd) Hunt, she graduated from Lang High School in Oklahoma in 1939 and was an all-state basketball player. She played semi-professional softball. In February 1950, she married Herman Hachtel in Bowie and worked as a bookkeeper for Bennett Oil Co. and Bowie Industries. She was the first woman elected to the Bowie City Council.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Hugh Hunt; and sisters, Maurice McKinley and Marylin Coulson.
She is survived by her sons, Gary Hachtel and Jimmy Hachtel, both of Bowie; sister, Judy Mullins and husband, Ben, of Montgomery; grandchildren, Lyndon Hachtel of Wichita Falls, Dylan Hachtel of Corpus Christi and Garrett Hachtel and Dustin Hachtel of Bowie; and nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Carter Lake Road Church of Christ.
