| Funeral for Madelene Vandiver Stanley Long, 93, of Decatur was Friday, Oct. 11, at the Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Roberts officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery. |
Long died Oct. 8, 2008.
Born Sept. 24, 1915, in Colbert County, Ala., to Walter Vandiver and Sara Ann Rickman, she married Wallace Stanley Sept. 3, 1939, in Alabama. They were married for 28 years at his death. She married Coleman Long in 1970 in Decatur and was married for 20 years at his death in 1990. She was a dorm mother at the Denton State School for more than 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; daughters, Billie Ruth Stanley, Patricia Gayle Love and Martha Sue Broedling; granddaughters, Angela Corsbie and Amy Tuggle; and a grandson, Dane Broedling.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Roberts and husband, Corky, of Decatur and Betty Wallace of Decatur; sons, Roy Stanley and wife, Tammy of Bowie, John Stanley and wife, Sylvia, of Georgia and Rickey Stanley and wife, Linda, of Fort Worth; sisters, Marie Woodly of Muscle Shoals, Ala., Amzona Mason of Zepherhills, Fla., and Hazel McCollum of Moulton, Ala.; brothers, Earnest Vandiver of La Grange, Ala., and J.D. Vandiver of Lakeland, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mark Corsbie, Jeff Love, Chase Gilbert, Marcus Baker, Justin Archuleta, Jeremy Archuleta, Chris Corsbie and Cesar Calderon. |
