Cecil Roy Wood

Funeral for Cecil Roy Wood, 89, of Decatur was Oct. 16 at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. The Rev. Roy Spore and Chris Jones officiated. Burial followed at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Wood died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, in Decatur.

Born May 13, 1920, in Salado to Fred Bruce and Nora Lee Birdwell Wood, he was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force who flew a B-29 bomber in World War II where he earned his silver wings. He married Annie Lee Reeves April 25, 1942, in San Bernardino, Calif.

He was a past president of the Wise County School Personnel, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and the Moslah Shrine Temple, a past member of the Eastern Star and an active member of the Wise County Veterans Group. He read, hunted, fished, played bridge and golfed.

He was preceded in death by a son, Cary Wood; three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife; son, Cecil Wood Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Gonzales; daughter, Sylvia Hornback and husband, Dick, of Decatur; brothers, R.L. Wood of Jacksonville, Tenn., F.B. Wood of Adona, Ark., and Lee Wood of Carrollton; grandchildren, Coleman Sterling, Clinton Wood, Craig Wood, Hunter Hornback, Justin Hornback and Elizabeth Killen; six great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Chris Jones, Dale Davenport, Bob Boyd and Gene Golden.
