Funeral for James Roy Gatlin, 62, of Slidell is 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at First Baptist Church of Slidell with the Rev. Bobby Cates officiating. Burial will follow at Slidell Cemetery. Visitation was to be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Gatlin died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, in Decatur.

Born June 25, 1947, in Anadarko, Okla., to James Richard and Hazel (Bacon) Gatlin, he married Lois Gail Stidham Aug. 28, 1965, in Wichita Falls. He retired from the UAW/Chrysler Parts Distribution Depot in Carrollton in 1996. He served in the National Guard, golfed and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Slidell.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kammie Jo Carico; brother, Edward Gatlin; half-brother, Willard Gatlin; and half-sister, Wanda Waldrop.

He is survived by his wife; son, James Lee Gatlin and wife, Tonya, of Greenwood; son-in-law, Terry Carico of Slidell; granddaughters, Jennifer Shumate and husband, Josh, of Sanger, Brenda Gayl Gatlin of Slidell, Candice and Crissie Gatlin of Greenwood; great-granddaughters, Brooke and Emily Rudder, Eden Shumate and Addison Nichole Dyer; sisters, LaVerne Halsted and husband, Ron, of Grand Prairie, Helen Cregger and husband, David, of Max Meadows, Va., and Darla Kubat and husband, Mitch, of Lakeside, Ariz.; brother, Eugene Gatlin and wife, Ann, of Bridgeport; half-sister, Viola McCalip of Temple, Okla.; brothers, Lee Stidham and wife, Phyllis, of Anadarko and Edward and wife, Dorithy, of Austin; sister-in-law, Beatrice Skelton and husband, Bo, of Anadarko; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
