Poynor died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, in Runaway Bay.
Born Aug. 28, 1928, in Breckenridge to Daisy Sims Poynor and Aubrey Poynor, he graduated from Cisco High School in 1945. He graduated in 1950 from Texas Tech University with a bachelor of science in geology.
Poynor married Fern Huestis in 1948. He was a regional manager with BJ Oilfield Services and later formed an oil and gas production partnership with his brother, Max, in Jacksboro. He also served on the school board for Jacksboro ISD and later helped develop the structure and charter of Runaway Bay. He was deacon and treasurer at Runaway Bay Community Church. He also played golf and ranched.
He is survived by his wife; brothers, Max Poynor and wife, Stacie, of Fort Worth and Judge Clay Poynor and wife, Sandra, of Bridgeport; sons, Dr. Wesley Poynor and wife, Kay, of Richmond, Va., Garland Poynor of Chico and Richard Poynor and wife, Cathy, of Jacksboro; grandchildren, Patrick Poynor and wife, Kirsten, of Virginia Beach, Va., Ariane Reagor and husband, Shannan, of Royse City, Douglas Poynor of Corinth, Adrienne Poynor of Corinth and Nicholas Glenn Poynor of Jacksboro; great-grandchildren, Noah, Nicholas and Darin Reagor of Royse City; and numerous nieces and newphews.
Pallbearers are Patrick Poynor, Nicholas Poynor, T.J. Poynor, Douglas Poynor, Shannan Reagor, Tres Poynor, Randy Chenot and Todd Whitfield. Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Todd, Ralph Hammond, Rod Hammond, Tom Messer, Gary Davis, Bill White, James Wood, David Rader and Robert Shipley.
