Fred P. Matar
1913-2009

Mass of Christian burial for Fred P. Matar, 96, of Fort Worth, was to be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Bridgeport. Burial was to follow at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Visitation was to be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Matar died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, in Fort Worth.

Born June 9, 1913, in Bridgeport to Pete Abdalla and Maroon (Hassan) Matar, he was retired from the U.S. Navy. He was a Navy warrant officer during World War II and the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Fred Matar Jr. and Timothy Matar; brothers, George, Charles, Phillip and Edward Matar; sisters, Freda Cofer, Faye Elias and Sadie Lawrence.

He is survived by sons, Kenneth Matar and wife, Ilona, of New Orleans and Joseph Matar and wife, Marilyn, of Mandeville, La.; grandchildren, Michael, Paul, Joseph and Anthony Matar, Mary LaFrance, Bobby Seivers, Rhondas Deeks and Kerry Dauphin; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
