| Funeral for Robert Lee Lancaster Jr., 66, of Bowie was to be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the First Baptist Church of Bowie with Mike Henson and Harold Elliot officiating. Burial was to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. |
Lancaster died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, in Bowie.
Born June 15, 1943, in Fort Worth to Robert Lee and Helen (Harlan) Lancaster Sr., he graduated from Bowie High School in 1961. He attended Texas Tech University on a football scholarship, where he met JoAnne Lacy. They married Feb. 6, 1962, in Whiteface. After graduating from Texas Tech, he coached at Idalou, Crosbyton and Aldine. He was a principal at Goldburg High School for two years. The couple moved to Bowie in 1979 and purchased Lancaster Memorials, which he operated until June 2009. He worked for the Texas Teachers Alternative Certification Program at the time of his death.
He was a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Bowie, taught fifth grade Sunday school and was a member of the choir.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Robert Tyler Lancaster.
He is survived by his wife; mother of Bowie; sons, Robbe Lancaster and wife, Diane, of Houston and Diran Lancaster and wife, Kellie, of Bowie; daughters, Sharon Erickson and husband, Brian, of Richardson and Tammy Chandler and husband, Chip, of Bowie; grandchildren, Austin and wife, Ashley, Travis, Clayton, Julie Anna, Crystal, Jake, Pierce and Dane Lancaster, Garret and Wyatt Erickson and Conner and Madison Chandler; sisters, Joyce McClendon and husband, Bill, and Linda Proctor and husband, Roy, all of Bowie; brother, Gary Paul Lancaster and wife, Cathy, of Giddings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Forward in Faith Building Fund at the First Baptist Church of Bowie. |
