Why are all those people grinning?
They’ve been to see “Radio Gals,” Off 380 Players’ first musical production, set for three more performances this weekend at the Bridgeport Stage (formerly Fine Arts Theater) in downtown Bridgeport.
Opening weekend drew record attendance for the community theater group’s staging of the tale of Hazel Hunt and the Hazelnuts and their search for a clear channel. Response has been enthusiastic.
“Those Hazelnuts sure knew their music,” notes musical director Carol Reynolds. “From Hazel’s living room in Cedar Ridge, Arkansas, ‘Radio Gals’ bring us nearly every type of music popular in the late 1920s. Get ready to hear ballads, vaudeville, operetta, barbershop harmony, parlor songs and all the popular dance crazes of the day: Charleston, two-step, ragtime and cake-walk.”
Director Craig Wills joins Donna Sims, Ruth Kimbrough, Judi Conger, Carolyn Prestidge, Stan Baker and Jerry St. John in the cast, with choreography by Nicole Ingram.
Russell Blanton, Hank Reynolds and Andrea Burton and Carol Reynolds provide musical accompaniment.
Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. Sunday’s matinee is at 2:30. Tickets at the door are $10 for adults and $5 for students to age 18.
