The high-speed chase ended in Clay County on Butler Ranch Road when the driver of the vehicle, Billy Joe McClain Jr., 25, of Bowie exited the sport utility vehicle and attempted to run on foot. His two passengers, Kasey Croxton, 26, and Jared Jones, 22, had exited the vehicle in Jack County during the pursuit.

The chase began in Alvord at about 12:55 p.m. when McClain, Croxton and Jones fled a residence when approached by investigators with the Wise County Narcotics Unit and the DPS.

According to information provided by the Wise County Sheriff's Department, DPS contacted the narcotics unit for assistance in locating for felony drug warrants and parole warrants. Investigators went to a residence in Alvord and spotted the SUV occupied by the three parked in the driveway. When investigators approached the vehicle, they told McClain he was under arrest and asked him to exit the vehicle. Instead, McClain drove away from the residence, and led the sheriff's department and DPS on a chase into the northwestern part of the county.

The chase eventually entered Jack and Clay counties, where Croxton and Jones jumped from the moving vehicle at Liberty and Dixon Road.

McClain continued to flee law enforcement into Montague County. After turning on Butler Ranch Road, a dead-end road, McClain exited the vehicle and began to run. Law enforcement quickly caught up with McClain, and he was arrested and taken to Montague County Jail.

Meanwhile, the Clay County Sheriff's Department used tracking dogs to find Jones and Croxton several hours after they fled from the vehicle. They were arrested and transported to Clay County Jail.

McClain was wanted for parole violation and possession of a controlled substance. Croxton was wanted for probation violations and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Croxton, McClain and Jones were all charged with evading arrest.

Law enforcement agencies involved in the chase included the Wise County, Montague County and Clay County sheriff's departments and DPS.
