Fire cause deemed suspicious
By Travis Measley | Published Sunday, June 14, 2009

"Right now we are still investigating and gathering information, but do think the cause is suspicious in nature," said Wise County fire investigator David Hanks.

The witness who reported the fire around noon Wednesday said a female in a green shirt was seen running from the home and into a field, but authorities were unable to locate any individual matching that description when they arrived on the scene.

Rhome, Boyd and Newark fire departments responded to the fire and had the flames contained in a matter of minutes.

Rhome fire chief Robert Pratt said most the fire damage was contained to the back bedroom of the home, but the entire inside suffered heavy smoke damage.

A partially constructed add-on in the back of the house was not damaged.

No one was injured during the blaze.
