Gates asked the council to consider placing a sign near one of the city's motorcycle dealerships.

After discussing several locations, the council agreed to buy four to five signs and determine where best to locate them, in consultation with the police department.

Gates also requested the city place similar "Share the Road" reflective stickers on city vehicles, but that idea drew a cooler reception.

"Where do you draw the line?" Mayor Joe Lambert asked, about other groups requesting their cause be placed on city vehicles. Police Chief Rex Hoskins said he does not add any stickers to police vehicles, but upon seeing their small size, agreed that might work.

The stickers are approved by the state highway department, Gates said.

The council approved closing city streets Saturday, May 23, for a 5K fun run to benefit Jackie Murphree. The route goes south from the veterans park on State Street to Thompson, several blocks around that neighborhood, and back to the park along Trinity.

Hoskins suggested avoiding construction on Hatcher Street.

Two recommendations from the Planning and Zoning Commission were approved, and first reading was held on a request to change commercial property to multifamily zoning for 5.7 acres at Preskitt and Old Reunion Roads. Second reading and approval will be May 26.

Oaths were administered to council members Martin Woodruff and Pam Holland, who were reelected without opposition. Jason Wren was also unopposed but was absent.

Four council positions will remain the same: Woodruff as mayor pro tem, Tim Murphy as deputy mayor pro tem, Wren as council of governments representative and Holland as airport liaison.
