Stephen York, 44, of Bridgeport was indicted for capital murder of a police officer June 30, according to records made public this week.
On April 2, York crashed a stolen car into the back of Bridgeport Police Sgt. Randy White's car, killing the officer. York had been fleeing from officers who had attempted to stop him following a hit and run accident, and was entering the south Bridgeport city limits on Texas 114 near Farm Road 2123 when the collision occurred.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit in the case, York told Texas Ranger James Holland that he "observed the police officer in a marked police unit on the side of the highway, and that he intentionally turned his vehicle to ram the vehicle and kill the police officer."
Investigating officers said White had been clearing traffic for the police chase just prior to the collision.
York remains in the Wise County Jail with bail set at $1 million.
