McKinney promoted to National Guard colonel

David McKinney, son of retired Colonel Dick McKinney and wife, Jo McKinney of Decatur, celebrated his promotion to colonel with the Air National Guard on Oct. 1.

David, along with wife, Marine, and their two children, Westin and Rylee, are currently stationed at Geilenkirchen Air Base in Germany where David is vice wing commander.

David entered the Air Force in 1983 and then joined the Air National Guard approximately three years later.

Joining David in Germany for the celebration was Colonel David Simon, who presided over the ceremony. Westin and Rylee pinned on his new wings. Friends and family in attendance included the Iowa Air National Guard Unit, his parents, his sister, Missy Johnson, of Sunset, brother-in-law, Cedar West and wife, Marilyn, of Ennis, Mont., and employees and co-workers from Geilenkirchen Air Base, Germany.
