Festival features full day of activities

Saturday's Coal Miners' Heritage Festival in downtown Bridgeport will showcase the athleticism, creativity and gaming ability of locals.

The annual event, sponsored by the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, Bridgeport Historical Society and Bridgeport Main Street, will feature a 5K and 30-mile bike ride, baking, photography and Mario Kart contests, a pet parade and bingo, among various other events.

Vendors, food booths and Halsell Street merchants will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Chisholm Trail Antique Tractor Club will have an exhibit at the festival.

Bridgeport Rocks 5K run/walk and 30-mile bike ride

Registration for the third annual Bridgeport Rocks 5K Run/Walk and 30-mile bike ride is at Harwood Park Saturday morning. Registration for the bike ride begins at 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. for the run, with the bike race beginning at 8 a.m. and the run beginning at 8:30 a.m. Registration the day of the race is $25, and proceeds benefit the Bridgeport Visitor Center. Photography contest

The entry deadline for the photo contest is Thursday, Oct. 1. Entries may be submitted in youth and adult (17 and up) categories and black and white or color categories and are $10 per entry. Entries must be a matted 8-by-10 photo. Photos will be displayed during the festival, and first and second place winners in each category will be awarded, as well as Best of Show. Entry forms are available at the Bridgeport Visitor Center. For more information, call (940) 683-3485.

Bingo

Bingo will begin at 9 a.m. at 911 Halsell Street and will last until the prizes are gone.

Mario Kart video game tournament

The third annual Bridgeport Rocks Main Street video game tournament is 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. at the Bridgeport Stage, 1009 Halsell Street. Proceeds from the $5 entry fees will benefit the Leslie Denison and Becca Logan fund. For information, call (940) 683-3485.

Baking contest

Entries will be accepted at 9 a.m. at the Sagebrush Cafe, 1020 Halsell Street, with judging at 10 a.m. Categories are fruit pies, cream pies, custard pies, cakes, cookies and 12 and under. First place will be awarded in each category and best of show will receive a mystery prize.

Pet parade

The pet parade registration is at 10 a.m., and the parade begins at 10:30. Categories are smallest, best dressed, worst hair day, most like owner, largest, best hair day, best trick and best all around. Call (940) 683-2257 for information.

Three-on-three basketball tournament

Registration is at the chamber of commerce booth the day of the tournament. For information, call the Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Department at (940) 683-3480.

Children's area

The children's area at 9th and Halsell will be the site of various events. A grown-ups eat your vegetables contest is at noon, and the mother/daughter and father/son look-alike contest is at 12:30 p.m. Ballet Folklorico de Fort Worth Inc. will perform at 3:30 p.m.

Living history demonstrations

Demonstrations will occur throughout the downtown area.
