Partners in Education provide support for the school through volunteer hours, activities, donations in supplies and resources and participation in school events.
New members include Alliance Community Fellowship Church, Arlington Blockbusters L.P., BAE Systems, Barnes and Noble Booksellers, Century 21 Preferred Properties, CiCi's Pizza of Saginaw, First Investors, Marriott at Champions Circle, Moritz Chevrolet, North Star Dragway and Papa Murphey's.
"We salute your efforts and thank you for your contributions to public education," said Jerhea Nail, special assistant to the superintendent. "We are very excited about the Partners in Education program."
The board also heard a construction report on district projects. Byron Nelson High School is complete save punch list items. Construction is now focused on the Culinary Arts Academy, which is to open to students next school year.
Tidwell Middle School is 40 percent complete and is to open in August 2010.
Several projects are under way at Northwest High School, including the modifications for two academies, roof replacement, construction of new stands at the baseball and softball fields and an orchestra/dance studio.
The district is also working to finish construction on the new Roanoke Elementary, which will open in August 2010. The current building will be used for the accelerated high school, also scheduled to open in August.
Assistant Superintendent for Facilities, Planning and Construction Dennis McCreary said that despite the heavy rainfall of late, construction projects were running on schedule.
In other business, the board:
- approved the campus improvement plans originally presented to the board at the Sept. 28 meeting; and
- heard a report on the safety and security audit.
