Compared to a year ago, sales tax revenue is down 57 percent in Bridgeport, 59 percent in New Fairview and 53 percent in Chico.
Statewide, the $1.57 billion in sales tax revenue in June is down 11 percent compared to June 2008. State sales tax collections in June and local sales tax allocations in July represent sales that occurred in May.
Other declines in revenue were felt by the cities of Decatur, down 22 percent; Runaway Bay, 36 percent; Paradise, 23 percent; Newark, 20 percent and Rhome, 3 percent.
Gains were recorded in Lake Bridgeport, up 91 percent; Aurora, 25 percent; Boyd, 10 percent; and Alvord, 2 percent.
County sales tax revenue declined 40 percent. The county received $271,531, compared to $452,137 earned in July 2008.
For the year, Runaway Bay has the biggest decline, at 27 percent, followed by Bridgeport at 23 percent and Paradise at 21 percent.
Decatur received $260,089 in July, down from the $334,730 received this time a year ago. Decatur has earned $2,126,104 for the year, a decrease of 1 percent from July 2008. For the year, only the cities of Aurora and Rhome are ahead of last year on rebates.
