At a recent meeting of Decatur Main Street merchants, manager Frieda Hanley announced a theme for promotions during the two months, "Mom, Grads and Don't Forget Dads." Windows of businesses around the square are decorated for Mother's Day, graduation and Father's Day. The windows will be judged and the winner will receive a free Internet home presence, valued at $125.

Several activities in Decatur in May will bring thousands of visitors to the city. The J.W. Hart WC Challenger Charities Professional Bull Riders event on May 23 is expected to fill the Sheriff's Posse Grounds as Hart, a world champion, will come out of retirement for one final ride. The event is being promoted on the Versus channel, where Hart is a commentator.

The morning of May 23, runners and walkers will converge on the city for Jackie's Race for Recovery, a benefit for Jackie Murphree and her family.

Murphree is undergoing treatment for a brain injury suffered in an auto accident in 2007. Hanley said the Wise County Veterans 5K, scheduled for May 9, will be combined with Jackie's Run May 23.

The Wise County Messenger and Messenger Office Supply will host the May 14 merchants meeting at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and door prizes awarded.

Cruise Nights on the Courthouse Square is from 4 to 8 p.m. June 6. The popular Movies on the Square return June 11 and 25 and continue throughout the summer.

Decatur will celebrate its western heritage from 2 to 11 p.m. June 20 with Chisholm Trail Days on the square. The event will include a chuckwagon exhibition, Lone Star Legacy Gunfighters, kids stickhorse rodeo and much more.

Jake Hooker and The Outsiders will be featured at the street dance from 7 to 11 p.m.

Booth space is available for Chisholm Trail Days at $30 for a 10-feet by 10-feet. Electricity is $10 more.

Several sponsorship opportunities are available for every event. To reserve a booth or sponsor an event, call Hanley at (940) 627-6158.
