In recognition of Allen and Sue Jean Cocanougher's continued support of the Wise Regional Health System dialysis program, Wise Regional recently placed a plaque dedicating the new Prismaflex Continued Renal Replacement Therapy machine in their honor. The plaque is located on the third floor of the hospital.
The Prismaflex machine provides patients with extended dialysis treatment during inpatient stays at the hospital. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a challenging condition for the affected patient as well as for caregivers. Hemodialysis usually involves treatments that last three to five hours, three times a week. The Prismaflex pumps blood from the patient through a dialyzer and returns the "cleaned" blood to the body, all without the patient having to leave the hospital to receive treatment.
