Every city in the county except Alvord and Runaway Bay showed a decline in revenue. Sales tax revenue for February and March payments to local governments represent sales that occurred in January.
Bridgeport jumped back in the lead in the county, despite a 12 percent decrease over March 2008. Bridgeport received $317,131, down from the same period a year ago when the city earned $361,379. The city is up .3 percent for the year at $1,078,106.
Decatur earned $263,556, down 1 percent from last year at this time. Decatur is up 9 percent for the year, at $1,024,559.
Aurora felt the biggest decline in March, down 71 percent at $866. For the year, Aurora is up 29 percent, at $7,397.
Wise County's share amounted to $361,776, down 11 percent from 2008. For the year, the county is up 10 percent, at $1.3 million.
Statewide, Texas cities received $291 million, down .7 percent from March 2008.
"State sales tax collections declined in February as important sectors such as retail trade and construction continue to struggle," said State Comptroller Susan Combs. "While state sales tax revenue has grown 2.8 percent through the first half of fiscal 2009, further declines are expected as the economy continues to weaken."
