Sales tax rebates continue decline

Sales tax collections by the state amounted to $1.70 billion in November, down 14.4 percent compared to November 2008. For the most part, December rebates to Wise County cities represented a drop much greater than that percentage.

Trade Days event continues to grow

Carla Tackett is a seasoned trades day vendor and in June this year, she put on her first Decatur Trade Days at the Wise County Sheriff's Posse grounds on FM 51 S. Within five months, the number of vendors had doubled, to 50, and she is confident the business will continue to grow in attracting not only vendors but also shoppers, as word gets out about the event.

CITY HIRES ADMINISTRATOR - After a brief executive session last night, the Bridgeport City Council approved a contract with Brandon Emmons. The council offered the job to Emmons March 9. Emmons is the manager of the town of Trophy Club and was previously with the city of Gatesville.

Burn
Decatur and Bridgeport firefighters used ingenuity to quell a roaring tank battery fire that followed a series of explosions at a well site near Seven Wires on Friday. They used an L-shaped metal device to spray foam directly onto the burning gas well by-product in the tank.
