BOYD COUNCIL - The Boyd City Council Tuesday approved an interlocal agreement with the county for animal control services. The city will pay a $150 annual fee for county services as well as various animal control fees for services such as impoundment or euthanasia, when applicable. Boyd mayor Brent Wilson said the city will continue to operate the city animal shelter and utilize county services when needed.

INTERIM PRESIDENT NAMED - The Weatherford College board of trustees Thursday approved the appointment of Kevin Eaton as interim president. Former President Joe Birmingham retired earlier this month. Eaton has been with the college since 2002 and has served as director of the tech prep program. He previously was a teacher and coach in the Grand Prairie school district and also served as assistant principal.

NAME THAT SCHOOL - The Decatur school district is asking residents to submit suggestions for the name of the new elementary scheduled to open in the fall of 2010 on County Road 4191. Community members can fill out a form found on the district's Web page, http://www.decaturisd.us or follow the link from the sidebar add on the Wise County Messenger Update home page. Only names submitted online will be eligible for consideration. Names can be submitted until noon Thursday, July 30.

FUNDRAISER - East Wise Fire and Rescue was to hold a fundraiser from noon until dark Saturday, July 25, at the station at County Road 4421 and Farm Road 2264. The event was to include hot air balloon rides, a car bash, dunking booth, face painting and more. All proceeds go toward equipment for the new station. BENEFIT - The Cruisin' for a Cure 2009 benefit car show and concert was to be Saturday, July 25, at the Decatur Civic Center. The car show was to be 1 to 5 p.m., and registration is $15. Motorcycles are welcome. The concert featuring Johnny Cooper, Brazos Stone and the Cody Robbins Band was to be 5:30 to 11 p.m., and admission is $15. All proceeds benefit the Lung Cancer Alliance. The benefit is in memory of Theresa Hobbs of Chico who died in February.

EAST SIDE REUNION - The East Side Alumni reunion was to be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at the Decatur Civic Center. There will also be a fellowship service at 11 a.m. Sunday at St. John Baptist Church in Decatur. For more information, call Mike Bell at (940) 627-9082.

CONCERT - The Wise County Historical Society was to host a concert featuring the Clear River Band at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at the G.C. Rann Little Theater inside the Wise County Heritage Museum. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12-and-under and can be bought at the door. All proceeds benefit building restoration.

PLAYHOUSE RAFFLE - The Decatur Rotary Club is selling raffle tickets for a playhouse for $5 a ticket or five for $20. Tickets can be purchased at Warner Radio and Communications, Cary Bohn State Farm or Noah's Ark Pet Store. The playhouse was to be at Reunion Saturday, July 25.

SWIM LATE - The Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Department was to host a late night swim Saturday, July 25, at the Bridgeport Pool. The pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is $2. Anyone under 15 must be accompanied by an adult after 9. For more information, call (940) 683-3480.

DECATUR TRADE DAYS - Decatur Trade Days will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Wise County Sheriff's Posse Grounds. Use the south entrance. For more information, call Carla Tackett at (940) 390-9104.

ASMI RALLY - An Accident Scene Management Inc. Motorcycle Awareness rally is this weekend at the Thunder Hill Rally Grounds, 167 PR 1106, in Decatur. Admission is $10, plus one small stuffed toy to be donated to local emergency responders. A Dart Run will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, bike games are at 2 p.m. and a band will perform from 8 to midnight. A Sunday service will also be held. BASS TOURNAMENT - Devon Energy will host a bass fishing tournament and fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting the United Way of Wise County, Saturday, July 25, at Lake Bridgeport. Check-in is at 5 a.m., fishing starts at 6 a.m. and weigh-in is at 3 p.m. Entry fee is $125 per team and first prize is $1,375, second prize is $825 and third prize is $550. Big bass wins a cash prize of $500 and $250. READING CLUB - The Decatur Public Library's Online Teen Summer Reading Club continues through July 28. Students entering grades 5-12 can participate. Awards will also be given for best review, funniest review and most books read.

AGGIE SEND OFF - The Cross Timbers Aggie Club will be having a "send off" party for current A&M students to start the new school year. The Aggie Howdy Party for Wise, Jack and Montague County Aggies is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Bridgeport Lions Club in Bridgeport. FOSTER OR ADOPT - There will be a foster/adoption families get-together at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Pizza Hut in Decatur. READING CAMP - Safari Reading Camp is open to students entering third grade as a tool to help on the reading portion of the TAKS test. The organization is asking for donations of school supplies, regulation size backpacks and varying sizes of new children's shoes. Donations can be taken to the Wise Hope Crisis Center, 407 S. RAFFLE TICKETS - The Decatur Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association is selling raffle tickets for a Stoeger Condor 12-gauge over and under shotgun. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and can be purchased at the First Financial and North Texas Banks or from any DCPAAA member. Drawing will be Oct. 6. All proceeds go to the Decatur Police Department to help provide training equipment.

FIGHT MOSQUITOS - Decatur mayor Joe Lambert is asking residents to take care of their property to limit breeding grounds for mosquitos. Tips include cutting weeds, getting rid of standing water, trimming brush and cleaning out any "junk" that might be stacked in your yard.

SUPPORT - Alcoholics Anonymous and Alanon meetings are 6:30 p.m. each Monday at the Newark Community Center at 404 Hudson St.

ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT - The Alzheimer's Association hosts an Alzheimer's support group at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of every month at Wise Regional Health System's west campus board room. For more information, call Kelly Walker at (940) 627-5921, ext. 3923.

HOUSING AUTHORITY - The Bridgeport Housing Authority is now accepting applications for one-bedroom apartments. Applications can be picked up at the office, 1508 Cobb, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

FOSTER OR ADOPT - CASA is taking applications for the Arrow Child and Family Ministries foster/adopt training in September at the Decatur Public Library. DONATE A PHONE - Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center is accepting cell phones and cell phone batteries in any condition. The organization works with a company, Shelter Alliance, which allows them to receive shelter funding through cell phone donations. Bring donations to the Wise Hope Crisis Center in Decatur at 407 S. CPR TRAINING - The Decatur Fire Department offers CPR training to people living in the Decatur city limits or in the Decatur Fire District. Classes are held monthly from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
