FIGHT MOSQUITOS - Decatur Mayor Joe Lambert is asking residents to take care of their property to limit breeding grounds for mosquitos. Tips include cutting weeds, getting rid of standing water, trimming brush and cleaning out any "junk" that might be stacked in your yard.

RETIREMENT - Weatherford College President Joe Birmingham has announced he is retiring. He has been president since 2005 and worked with local officials on planning for a new Weatherford College Education Center in Wise County. Wise County voters approved a branch campus maintenance tax for the education center last November.

CAR WASH - The Bridgeport Swimming Pool Junior Guard program was to have a car wash 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the swimming pool to raise money for a competition against other Junior Guard programs. For more information, call (940) 683-4344.

BOOK SALE - The Rhome Library was to have a book sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 20. Fiction, non-fiction and paperback books will be available. Nothing is more than $1.

5K RUN - Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) was to host the first Speak Up For Kids 5K race 9 a.m. Saturday, June 20, in conjunction with Chisholm Trail Days in downtown Decatur. FOOD HANDLER'S PROGRAM - The Wise County Extension office is offering a Texas Department of State Health Services accredited food handlers program from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, June 29, at the Extension office, 206 S. State St., in Decatur. The class will cover good personal hygiene, cross contamination, and time and temperature abuse. Cost is $15. To reserve a spot, call the Extension office at (940) 627-3341.

WELL REGISTRATION - July 1 is the deadline for registering existing water wells with the Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District. Exemptions include wells used exclusively for domestic use, watering livestock or poultry or agricultural irrigation. Wells not capable of producing more than 25 gallons per minute, or two or more wells tied into a system not able to produce more than 30 gallons a minute are also exempt. All groundwater wells drilled on or after Jan. 1, 2009, must be registered with the district, regardless of whether the well qualifies for an exemption. FOSTER OR ADOPT - CASA is taking applications for the Arrow Child and Family Ministries Foster/Adopt training in September at the Decatur Public Library.
